1. Brian V - 10 June 2011

1. I like how the stories built up towards the very end; the characters go through a lot of development for the climax.

4. My favorite story was “Tell-Tale-Heart” since it had a pretty creepy way of telling the story, and I like the dialogue that was given to the narrator as well. It fit his personality as he tried to hide the fact that he was mad, when the audience knew he was.

2. m.p.s - 10 June 2011

1. I really like the short story unit because the stories are short and have a strong meaning in each short story. They are easy to understand.
2. My favorite short story was “The River” because it has an extremely deep meaning in it, but it’s hard to determine if the boy was saved.

3. kolby r - 10 June 2011

1 I liked the unit because the stories where short and easy to understand.
4 My favirite short story was “Parker adderson, Philosopher” because war interests me.

4. Anonymous - 10 June 2011

1. I liked the short story unit because the stories were easy to understand and they were very interesting to me; besides “The River”, I didn’t find that one too interesting.

4. My favorite short story was “Parker Adderson, philosopher” because that was the one that was most interesting to me; I like war and that’s what the story is based on.

5. Dalton - 10 June 2011

1. I personally don’t have a view on any of the short stories that we read; I think that they were pointless in a way. I didn’t really pay attention as much, but like “Parker Adderson, Philosopher”, but it still wouldn’t be anything that I would read if I wasn’t in English class.

4. Parker Adderson was my favorite short story.

6. Natasha - 10 June 2011

1. What I enjoyed about the short story unit is that some of the stories were interesting and I enjoyed reading them. What I didn’t enjoy was not really being able to remember some stuff after reading them.

2. Alex B. says – She might be living with Mr. Abner Snopes, because she doesn’t have the capability of living on her own, and because she’s trying to help her sister. I agree with what she is saying here.

3. Christina says- “I don’t relate to any of the characters in the ‘Tell-Tale Heart’.
I don’t creep into people’s rooms at night.” I totally agree with her because that’s pretty creepy to just be looking in someone’s room at night unless your checking in on them like a kid.

4.I liked the short story “Barn Burning” – I just thought it was a really good short story and I got interested in it.

7. Nick savage - 10 June 2011

1. My view is I don’t like short stories because they are boring.
4. My favorite short story was “Parker Adderson, Philosopher” because the spy got captured and he got killed.

8. Alexandria B. - 10 June 2011

1. What I like about the short story unit is that the stories were short but had enough details to fulfill the actual things that are in a play or novel.

2. Michelle C.’s blog stated “because when you lie, it gets you nowhere, and if you are looking for something good in life, you won’t get far unless you are honest about it.” I agree with that because lies don’t get you anything good, only guilt.

3. Dalton F. I agree with his second blog on “The Last Leaf” because the author does have a dark style in writing and does portray it to the characters that are in his stories.

4.”The River” was my favorite story in this unit because it was a touching story. The little boy had been neglected by his parents but after he got baptized, my favorite part of that short story was when the little boy said that now, “I count.”

9. Tyler P. - 10 June 2011

1. Short stories are too short; they remind me of short people because they’re short and to the point, which bothers me. They’re like a story without all the detail. You read them and never really get the full understanding as you do reading a normal book.

4. None of them; I don’t enjoy short stories. I’d rather read a full book; even though I hate reading, at least I’d understand it more. Most short stories had weird morals to them that I didn’t really get. A creepy house keeper watching an old man like a creepy stalker – that’s a little messed up. Then the story where some leaf was the reason why she lived or not? It’s a leaf – get over it. It’s going to fall. What she needed to do was get her butt out of bed and stop being so depressed and go paint her life’s goal.

10. M.W. - 10 June 2011

1 Well, they are not fun.

4 My favorite short story was “Parker Adderson, Philosopher” because people died.

11. CW - 10 June 2011

1) The brief short story unit was a good unit. I liked the short stories that we read in class. They were different and interesting, and I was not expecting it. I like the different kinds of short stories that we read.
4) “The River” was was my favorite short story that we read in class in the short story unit. I liked how the boy Henry just looked up to the babysitter as a mom. He kept her handkerchief and her book as something that was from her so he could remember her by. It was sad when he went into the river, but I’m looking at is as Henry just trying to save himself from the neglect at home.

12. anthony - 10 June 2011

1. I didn’t really like the short story unit; this class is first period, and I’m late a lot. If you miss 2 classes, the story is basically over. What I do like about short story questions is they are easy to read and the story doesn’t drag on.
2.A l e x Y, yes, chalk, I completely agree with your comment 3 on “The last Leaf”; it did seem like she didn’t want to be in pain anymore, so the leaf was a good excuse.
3.Ethan R-C, I agree with your comment on “The Tell-tale Heart” because it would be hard to relate to any of those characters.
4. My favorite short story was “Barn Burning” because there was a lot of excitement in just a short period of time.

13. Katelyn P. - 10 June 2011

1.) What I like about the short story unit is that the stories were short yet gave information and showed what each character went though. Plus the fact that the short stories had a plot and went though it; I do like the climax of most of the stories. Like in “The Last leaf”, how the sick woman believed she was going to die when the last leaf fell from the vine during the storm. But she had been saved and believed that the last leaf didn’t fall, when it was actually a masterpiece made by the artist who ended up dying by what she had.

2.) I picked to talk about the blog about “Barn Burning” . . . the blog was by djb; (Responding to #4.) djb said that Sartoris’ father was a bad father, which I agree with, since he was giving a bad influence to his son. Plus his father abused him when he got angry and tried controlling the whole family’s way of getting around and making them move so many times from his bad decision.

3.) I picked to respond to Anthony Y. in the short story “The Last Leaf”. The first response which was #1 talks about who made the biggest sacrifice; I completely agree with Anthony since Berhman made the biggest sacrifice with painting the last leaf to keep the woman alive, yet was also wanting to finally make his masterpiece. it risked his life and took it when he was out in the storm.

4.) My favorite short story in this unit was “The Last Leaf”. I read it before, yet it was nice to actually read it again and even blog about it while seeing others blogs about the story.

14. c.S - 10 June 2011

1) I don’t like the short stories because they are not long enough and don’t get my imagination going . I would prefer to read a longer story that drags on a bit longer than a short story.

15. D.B - 10 June 2011

1. I didn’t personally really like the short story unit because sometimes when the story is good it ends too early or leaves open room and doesn’t use it.
Also short stories don’t seem fill enough for me.

4. I guess “Parker Adderson, Philsopher” was my favorite.

16. Steve B. - 10 June 2011

1. my view on short stories was very unique. Some of them gave a sense of realism.
2. D♥J♥B his writing style was like none other, and his use of vocabulary was way advanced for his time.
3.S♥J♥B I agree, the father wasn’t really a good influence on his sons; he made all of his sons do the dirty work
4. My favorite short story was “The River”. It was a really good story. It taught a lesson of life.

17. R.V. - 10 June 2011

I like the short stories because you can think of what they will do after the story ends. For example, they could change, go for their dream, be safe, or anything else.
I agree with you, TSP with everything you said about “The Last Leaf”. I like the two last paragraphs you wrote and they were very well thought out.
I agree with you, Katelyn P. totally with saying the stuff about the “Barn Burning”. Very true on everything and I agree with all paragraphs you wrote.
My favorite story is “Parker Anderson, Pilosopher” because there was action in it out of all the other stories we read and saw.

18. Nick S. - 10 June 2011

1. My view is I don’t like short stories because they are boring.
2. K. Rogers – his writing style was different because he used many long words and was hard to read.
3. S.J.B. Mrs Snopes’ twin sister doesn’t have anywhere to go, and has nobody in her life.
4. My favorite short story was “Parker Adderson, Philosopher” because the spy got captured and he got killed.

19. B.W - 10 June 2011

1. I enjoyed the short story because the stories were very interesting and very understandable. Most of the stories were based on death and had interesting points.

4. My favorite short story was “Parker Adderson, philosopher” because the story is based on war and both the general and the spy die, so basically the general died for capturing the spy.

20. JD. - 10 June 2011

1. I think that the short story unit was interesting; my favorite was “The River”. “The River” kept me wanting to keep reading and see what’s coming next. The thing I like about short stories is that they have so much info and content in just a few pages.

4. My favorite short story would have to be “The River”; the reason why I chose “The River” was because the story was interesting and I just wanted to keep reading to find out what was coming up next.

21. TJD - 10 June 2011

1. My view on the short story unit it was ok. What I like about short stories is that it doesn’t take that long to read a short story.
4. My favorite short story is “I’m a Fool” because it tells a very important lesson in life.

22. Caroline H. - 10 June 2011

1. I am not a huge fan of the short story genre because they never mention the ending like a novel, but I do like it because it gets your mind thinking.

2. On the blog for period one’s “Last Leaf” I agree with Natasha, because Johnsy made an excuse for dying.

3. On the blog for our period about “I’m a Fool”, I disagree with K.A.K’s number one, because the main character made some bad choices and they came back a hit him, making him suffer.

4. My favorite short story is “I’m A Fool” by Sherwood Anderson, because it describes the results of lying and how it can effect you.

23. A>M.m - 10 June 2011

1. what I like about short stories is how you don’t have to read so many pages just to get the climax of the story. For example when you read a novel or long story, you have to read like over a 100 pages just to reach the climax and get the main point of the story. But in a short story you don’t have to read as much to get to the climax or see the point of the story.
2. Caroline H. ……. I agree with you. I do believe that if Krebs was in a different war it wouldn’t have changed anything.
3.KAK………..I agree with you about how Krebs is intimidated by girls, so this stops him from having an relationship.
4. My favorite short story would be “The River” because it is the only one that caught my attention and didn’t want me to fall asleep. The part how the ‘lil boy takes care of himself I can relate to, too.

24. KaK - 10 June 2011

1. My view on the short story unit as a genre is that it’s a brief but easy way to learn and understand the way the characters lives were and what they accomplished or didn’t accomplish during their time. I like that they are short and have the right amount of detail you need to understand them with out a huge story line.

2. Yes, I agree with Susan A. for all three answers for the short story blog on the “Last Leaf”.

3. Yes, I agree with Pierre M. for all five answers for the short story blog on “Im a Fool”

4. Definitely “I’m a Fool” because it was humorous and attention grabbing, while teaching us a lesson at the same time.

25. PM - 10 June 2011

1/ I do not really enjoy Short Stories because they are way too fast read, which is very annoying. I’d rather enjoy a full story with many more characters and a plot far more complex. Therefore, this was not the best unit for me.
2/ I do not agree with Brandon Jackson over there on the blog about “I’m a Fool”, because I do not think that the main character was suffering from any inferiority complex, and did not lie to the girl because he was feeling inferior, but rather because he was trying to impress her and the people with her.
3/ I actually disagree with myself on the same blog, because finally I did lie to people at some points to avoid hanging out with them and have a better time with others.
4/ My favorite SS was “I’m a Fool”, because I enjoyed reading it, and the story was rather interesting !

26. Susan A - 10 June 2011

1) I have enjoyed the short story unit. I like the short story as a genre because they can tell you an amazing story and have it only be a couple pages long. Just like “The River”, it is short but still makes you hang off the edge of your seat.
2) Allison N: if you say you are leaving and going somewhere else than what you said, what would you do if someone did find out. Because now one will know when you tell where you’re going, you just might be lying
3) Joe, when you say that Behrman made a sacrifice for Johnsy, you need to mention why he did that. Just saying he did that does not explain the reason for sparing his own life.
4) My favorite short story was “I’m a Fool” because of the humor of the story. He had to make himself look better just to impress a girl. It also showed love at first sight.

27. marisa c - 10 June 2011

1. My opinion on the short story unit is that I enjoyed reading the novels much more. What I liked about the short stories is that they were quick and easy. They only took us a couple of days to read and go over.

4. My favorite short story was “The River”. It was interesting and I liked the movie also. I enjoyed watching the little boy be happy with Mrs Connin.

28. E.S. - 10 June 2011

1; my view on the short story genre is that i don’t really like short stories, I like to have more detail in the story than what a short story can give you. I like that short stories can be read in a short period of time. I like our most recent short story, “The River” because I like how she ended the story; you didn’t know what really happened to the boy, it was up to you to figure out or guess.

2; MR; I agree with what you said in question 1, I agree that Mr. Behrman helped the girl live by painting the leaf on the tree because he knew the girl wanted to die when the last leaf fell. I also think that the way the guy wrote this story is the way that he lives his own life.

3; Brian; I agree with everything you said in question number 2, The plot shows the man isn’t afraid of death, the conflict shows what the man is against, and the theme shows what kind of events the story will be about.

4; My favorite short story in this unit was “The River” because it was the only one I had actually read.

29. Allison S. - 10 June 2011

1) I liked the short story unit because the stories were short and they got to the point, and you got to read more in a short period of time. What I thought about the short stories is that they got to the moral of the story, and they made you want to know more when you’re done reading it, like you wish they would continue it.

2) well Michelle c, maybe make your saying more clear so that one can understand you better;

3) K.A.K well if the truth comes out in the end, then why don’t we just say the truth in the first place – it’s silly, but I do the same thing

4) My favorite short story of this unit would be ”The River”. That’s my favorite because it was about this little boy about 5 years of age, and he lived in a really bad environment, until the baby-sitter came and took him on pretty much the adventure of his life.

30. michelle - 10 June 2011

1. My view on the short story unit would be that I liked the short stories better, because there are a lot more that you can read, and most of them are really interesting; the story doesn’t drag on as if it was a novel.

2.B.W-. the leaf in “The Last Leaf” was a symbol for death that would decide Johnsy’s fate. I agree with Brandon because Johnsey was waiting for the last leaf to fall off the tree, thinking that the last leaf meant her last day to live; once it was gone, then she would fall with it.

3. Mjc – He liked meeting new people. People from different cities would greet him kindly and hand him drinks. I agree with Marisa, because he was looking forward to meeting new people but was skeptical about it.

4 My favorite short story was “The Last Leaf ” by O` Henry, because I liked how she was waiting on the leaf to fall in order for her to pass away.
